Learn about our vision and how to partner with us.
Our vision is to accelerate a future of energy abundance, and it starts with planning. Without planning, we cannot move forward. Without alignment, we cannot take action.
OpenGrid’s ecosystem vision enables faster time to flowing electrons by channeling philanthropic capital into open tools, a builder ecosystem, and a neutral institutional home. OpenGrid puts modern planning in every grid actor’s hands, so that infrastructure scales globally at the pace the energy transition requires.
The Management Committee sets OpenGrid’s strategy and budget.

Alice Yake is Vice President of GRIDS at Breakthrough Energy, where she leads efforts to benchmark grid modeling tools, identify gaps, and mobilize the broader ecosystem to close them through open-source development. Her work is focused on shortening the timeframe it takes to reach sound electrical grid infrastructure decisions—both by improving the underlying modeling tools and by resolving the trust gap between stakeholders through the transparency and repeatability that open-source approaches provide. With 25 years of industry experience spanning Enron, Oxy, and Xcel Energy, she brings deep expertise in system design, regulation, and zero-carbon goals to this mission. Alice balances her mission-driven career with her role as a mother and stepmother.

Dr. Anand R. Gopal is the Founding Executive Director of Global Grids Catalyst, a strategic hub that modernizes and expands power grids around the world to deliver affordable, secure and reliable electricity.
Anand is a renowned scientist and expert on electricity systems and electric transport with more than two decades of experience in policy research and technology forecasting. He has advised government leaders in the U.S., China and India on energy and transportation policy matters of national importance.
Anand has held leadership positions at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and Energy Innovation.
He serves on the Board of many influential organizations: the International Council on Clean Transportation, the Good Food Institute and Mighty Earth.
He is a Distinguished Alumni awardee from Cal Poly Humboldt, where he received an M.S. in Environmental Systems. He also holds a Ph.D. in Energy and Resources from the University of California Berkeley and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.

Anna Foglesong is Executive Director of the Connected Grid Initiative (CGI), a strategic funder and partner dedicated to advancing transmission solutions to power America’s future. Prior to CGI, Anna held strategy and policy roles at MISO and PG&E. Anna led efforts in both organizations to ensure reliability amidst the changing resource mix and increasing extreme weather, through modifications to planning, markets, operations, and systems.
Anna started her career in consulting and has undergraduate and business degrees from Dartmouth College.

Mark Caine is the Global Head of Energy External Affairs at Google. He leads a team of experts responsible for Google’s strategic engagement with the global energy ecosystem, drawing on nearly two decades of experience in energy technology, policy, and markets. He is a board member of the Energy for Growth Hub, and prior to Google he served in senior roles at the World Economic Forum, African Union Commission, and UK Foreign Ministry. He holds degrees from Brown University and the University of Cambridge.

The Interim Technical Committee (TC) is a small group of open-source grid modeling practitioners convened during OpenGrid’s formation stage. The TC evaluates and recommends technical priorities for OpenGrid investment to the MC. Members serve in their individual capacity and recuse themselves from funding discussions involving their own organizations. The MC will establish a permanent Technical Committee, likely in 2027.
There are three pathways to take a governance seat and shape OpenGrid.
Participate in strategic and platform discussions and provide sector input, without voting rights or decision authority.
Within the Linux Foundation family, LF Energy provides a community for open-source projects across the energy system, contributed to and leveraged by various entities in industry or academia. OpenGrid is focused on building the foundational data and integration layer that helps projects such as these plus other open-source or commercial grid planning tools work together. OpenGrid’s mission is to put every grid planner on the same technical footing: tools anyone can afford, models anyone can inspect.
